According to Drive Tesla Canada, Tesla has signed a global agreement with Emergency Safety Solutions to put Hazard Enhanced Location Protocol (H.E.L.P.) in its vehicles.
The car company will be the first auto brand to implement H.E.L.P. technology in its vehicles.
“This is great news for significantly increasing roadside safety,” said Tom Metzger, C.E.O. of E.S.S. “Tesla is a leader in bringing first-time innovation to passenger vehicles and is leading the way by implementing H.E.L.P. technology on potentially millions of Tesla vehicles worldwide. It’s a monumental step in the effort to overcome the troubling safety issue of crashes into disabled and vulnerable vehicles, which tragically injure or kill tens of thousands around the world each year.”
There has been a record of 15,000 people killed or injured in the United States due to crashes involving disabled vehicles. Emergency Safety Solutions says the emergency flashers in vehicles implemented in 1951 may have helped cause it.
The new technology implementation will aid in preventing crashes by executing turn signals flash at a faster rate. It was proven better at catching drivers’ attention than the rates implemented 70 years ago.
In addition, the system also updates drivers through the onboard or mobile device’s navigation to inform them of approaching disabled vehicles on the road.
H.E.L.P technology will be implemented through a range of Tesla Vehicles via an over-the-air software update. It will reduce the number of crashes of disabled vehicles. However, it was not released when this would happen.
