One of the first 1,000 Foundation Series Cybertrucks got resold for almost $US249,999 (AUD400,000) on a popular US-based car listing website today, less than three months after the Delivery Event.
First Cybertruck flip
Cybertruck enthusiast @greggertruck initially spotted the sudden appearance of an early customer vehicle wearing a Foundation Series badge in Cargurus on Monday, February 12.
As you can see in the screenshot above, the Cybertruck with only 555 miles (890 km) on the odometer sells at $A400,000 ($US249,999).
Surprisingly, the seller took down the listing in just less than a day, as the Cybertruck had already been sold.
Tesla’s no-resale policy
This recent Cybertruck flipping incident is the main reason why Tesla relaunched the no-resale policy in its Cybertruck Motor Vehicle Purchase Agreement in early December 2023.
As per the agreement terms, Tesla warned owners of a penalty of up to $US50,000 once they violate the no-resale policy.
“You understand and acknowledge that the Cybertruck will first be released in limited quantity. You agree that you will not sell or otherwise attempt to sell the Vehicle within the first year following your Vehicle’s delivery date. Tesla may seek injunctive relief to prevent the transfer of title of the Vehicle or demand liquidated damages from you in the amount of $50,000 or the value received as consideration for the sale or transfer, whichever is greater. Tesla may also refuse to sell you any future vehicles.”

What’s special about the foundation series Cybertruck?
The Foundation Series Cybertruck is a limited edition variant of the all-electric pickup truck with only 1,000 production units.
Considering that this limited edition variant costs $20,000 more than the Cyberbeast, it already comes with the following special features:
- Tesla’s full-self-driving software (FSD) package
- Vehicle-to-load power share option
- All-terrain tyres
- Laser etched badging
- Light bar
- Various Cybertruck-specific accessories
Tesla officially introduced the Foundation Series Cybertruck just weeks after the original Delivery Event in November 2023. Since then, Tesla has rolled out hundreds of units of the model to early customers.
Given the strong demand for the Cybertruck, it may not be surprising that many customers choose to buy from resellers despite the ridiculous price increase. That said, Tesla must exert extra effort to monitor and prevent such resale attempts.
