The press release noted that the company’s Silicon Anode Platform-based li-ion cells provide approximately two-fold higher energy density than the widely used li-ion cells. In essence, the innovative li-ion battery from Amprius has two times longer run times than the commercially available ones.

“These cells provide a run time of 200% compared to state-of-the-art graphite cells, while being lighter and smaller than other batteries with the same energy content.”

Jon Bornstein, Amprius Lab president

Amprius’ battery boasts an “unpararreled” run time

Apparently, Amprius’ li-ion cell can produce an indomitable energy density of 504 Wh/kg, 1321 Wh/L, making it operate longer than any other option. Its nominal voltage is 3.45v. These findings mark significant progress from February’s 450 Wh/kg report.

It also reduced around 50% of the weight and volume than the currently available ones in the market.

Indeed, that is a remarkable result under a temperature of 77 degrees Fahrenheit (25 degrees Celsius).

Below are the cells details of Amprius’ new battery technology, according to Mobile Power Solutions:

  • cell nominal capacity: 6.604 Ah
  • cell nominal voltage: 3.45 V
  • cell nominal energy: 22.8 Wh
  • gravimetric energy density: >504 Wh/kg
  • volumetric energy density: >1321 Wh/l
  • test conditions: 77 °F (25°C) and C/10 charge/discharge current (aside C/100 charging at the top, above 4.37 V)

Amprius to offer its next-gen cells to the aviation industry and EVs

Green Car Congress reports Amprius’ plan to launch the newest li-ion battery tech in the rapidly growing aviation industry. The company will also eventually offer the battery to EVs, accumulating battery demand of over $100 billion by 2025.

Amprius’ 500 Wh/kg battery platform will undoubtedly aid customers in attaining maximum discharge times without affecting critical features, including aircraft cargo and overall weight.

“This latest validation continues Amprius’ track record of producing the world’s most powerful battery cells and sets an industry benchmark for next-generation battery technology that will ultimately revolutionize how high we fly, how far we travel and how long we can use our devices.”

Jon Bornstein, Amprius Lab president
