Volvo will only be making electric vehicles in North America starting in 2023.
Volvo’s entire 2023 lineup will only consist of electrified cars, as the automaker confirmed last Tuesday. In addition to battery-powered EVs, Volvo will still be offering gas-powered cars, but they will be mild-hybrid or plug-in hybrid electric vehicles. –according to Kelly Blue Book.
Currently, Volvo sells two EV models, which are the XC40 Recharge and the C40 Recharge. Every other Volvo model will be available with a hybrid powertrain for 2023.
Volvo also offers the XC90, XC40 and V60 that will come standard with Volvo’s 48-volt mild hybrid system. The automaker also added a hybrid system for its 2022 S60 model.
It was also reported that all 2023 Volvo models would feature the Google infotainment system. It will let users run google apps such as Google Maps and Voice assistant directly from the car, without connecting to a phone.
With the upgraded infotainment system, it has the ability to receive over-the-air (OTA) updates. All upcoming 2023 Volvo cars will be capable of receiving and installing software upgrades remotely.
Volvo’s 2023 lineup is currently in production and is expected to arrive at dealers this summer—according to Microsoft News.
This is a step for Volvo toward offering only pure electric vehicles by the year 2030 and becoming carbon neutral by 2040.
