Orders for the Tesla Semi have opened, and a $20,000 deposit must be made.
Tesla’s long-awaited electric truck, Semi has finally gone on sale, and order books are now open in Tesla’s official site.
The Tesla Semi’s based price is $150,000 for the 300-mile range and $180,000 for the 500-mile range. Both models will be powered by four electric motors that drive the rear wheels.
Customers can now place their reservations, although a $20,000 fee must be made.
Tesla claims that the Semi truck can accelerate from 0 to 60mph (96.5km/h) in 20 seconds with a 36-tonne load.
Elon Musk confirmed earlier this year that production for the Semi truck is not yet expected this year. Earlier reports suggested that production dates for the electric truck will start on 2023.
Tesla described the Semi as the “safest, most comfortable truck ever.” Semi is also equipped with “Enhanced Autopilot” and a centered driver position that provides maximum visibility and control.
The automaker also claims that the truck will use less than 2kWh of energy per mile and it will let buyers save up to $200,000 in fuel savings and a two-year payback period.
During Tesla’s first-quarter earnings call, it revealed that the Semi will use an 800v architecture along with the Cybertruck.
