The state of Georgia and other local government will offer Rivian Automotive a total of $1.5 billion incentives on building a new EV plant.
The state of Georgia and local governments announced on Monday that it has agreed to give Rivian Automotive a $1.5 billion worth of incentives that will be used for building its $5 billion electric vehicle plant in east of Atlanta and create 7,500 jobs-according to a report by U.S. News.
Pat Wilson, Georgia Economic Development Commissioner, said the size of the package reflects the size of the largest single industrial announcement in Georgia history. He said that Rivian is expected to employ around 7,500 workers, which will each receive an average annual salary of $56,000. He said in a statement that the plant was a historic win and putting Georgia “at the forefront of the electric vehicle revolution.” The plant will also include a battery cell production site.
Greg LeRoy, executive director Good Jobs First, said that the this offer was the largest incentive that the State of Georgia has ever given to a company. It was also said that it is the largest incentive any American state has given to an automotive plant.
“This is very significant It’s the biggest auto assembly subsidy package in US history.” LeRoy said. A Rivian spokesperson said that the company aims to open the plant in late 2024. This facility will be Rivian’s second assembly plant, after its plant in Normal, Illinois.
