Leading American automaker Tesla unintentionally verified that its new V4 Superchargers can support up to 350kW charging speeds.
Non-profit community @TeslaOwnersUK obtained a copy of Tesla’s planning application papers for deploying 36 EV charging units, including 16 V4 Superchargers, at the Swindon Designer Outlet North Car Park in the United Kingdom.
Plan details
Tesla’s planning application signifies the Musk-led company’s commitment to expanding its enormous and reliable charging network.
Notably, the new V4 Superchargers are expected to substantially cut Tesla vehicles’ charging times with its 350kW speed.
For reference, the company’s current V3 Superchargers’ maximum power is 100kW, lesser than the new V4 units at 250kW.
Apart from the proposed 16 units of V4 Superchargers, the development proposals also involve the development of 20 units of 22kW ChargePoint 6000 series EV chargers. Notably, these 36 planned EV chargers will be designed to be globally compatible.
Furthermore, the shared document indicated that grid connections significantly influenced the site selection. According to Tesla, the grid’s capacity limits and distance from charging stations impeded 50% of grid applications.
Therefore, the availability of appropriate spots must be immediately developed to optimize the grid’s usage and facilitate improved distribution of EV charging stations.
Tesla’s proposed Superchargers will apparently be open for customers 24/7, with a capacity to charge Tesla EVs in approximately 30 minutes.
However, it must be noted that the application is still under evaluation and needs regulatory approval.

If Tesla succeeds in securing the necessary approval for the proposed Superchargers, it will undoubtedly boost Swindon’s mediocre charging infrastructure network. It will also aid the UK’s broader strategy of promoting EV adoption.
