Electric vehicle giant Tesla seems to have begun preparing for the imminent construction of its newest Gigafactory in Mexico based on the drone videos released by local publication Milenio.
As you can see in the video attached to the Tweet below, machines necessary for the factory development have already arrived at the site.
Moreover, the video also showed that Tesla has already placed cones on the roads to warn drivers that construction operation is ongoing at the property.
Giga Mexico’s progress
Interestingly, Tesla also stated before that it aims to construct the new Giga Mexico faster than Giga Shanghai’s nine-month record.
However, Tesla must first secure the necessary government permit before proceeding with the planned development. Nuevo León Samuel Alejandro García Sepúlveda assured in June that Tesla would soon receive the permit without disclosing the exact date.
“We do not yet have a date for when, but the good news is that all the permits for the environment, energy, water, everything is already checked, it is advancing. So at any moment, we are going to give them the news that the first stone is being laid.”
Samuel Alejandro García Sepúlveda, Nuevo León Governor
It must be noted that Giga Mexico is crucial for Tesla’s target of producing 20 million EVs by 2030. Moreover, it will also house the production of the automaker’s planned mass-market EV and robotaxi.
Finally, Tesla seems to be gearing up to break ground at the site.
“Construction work on the Tesla Gigafactory announced on March 1, has already begun on the property that will be its headquarters in the municipality of Santa Catarina, Nuevo Leon. Since this Wednesday, the machinery has been observed in the section near the highway to Saltillo, at its junction with the Anillo Periférico de Monterrey.”

It would be interesting to see if Tesla can actually beat Giga Shanghai’s development speed for the new Giga Mexico.
