Tesla announced during its Investor Day event that it would begin developing a new production plant in Mexico, which is undoubtedly a very significant development.
Construction could start at any moment now that the goal is to build the factory at rapid speeds. New EVs could start rolling out of the plant in a little less than a year.
In hindsight, a muddy field in China was transformed into Tesla’s most significant factory at breakneck speed despite the tremendous skepticism surrounding the project. As we all know, Giga Shanghai is the primary export hub for the US electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla. They use highly efficient production methods to crank out Tesla Model 3 and Model Y vehicles for domestic purposes.
Tesla’s factory construction in Texas and Germany were slower
Tesla’s most recent factory construction efforts in Texas and Germany were shown to be slower than those in China. However, both factories are available and successfully increase production.
Tesla’s factories in China were the first to be completed. The intention is to begin construction on the newest factory sometime this month near Monterey.
The automaker may simultaneously choose another site and begin construction on another new factory, similar to how it did with Giga Texas and Giga Berlin.
According to InsideEVs, all that’s left for Tesla to do is wait for the final permit approval before things can get rolling.
Once construction has begun, the automaker intends to open the factory in the shortest possible time. Through this, Tesla will have the opportunity to begin production of electric vehicles in Mexico on its next-generation platform next year.
Tesla’s new factory in Nuevo Leon
The upcoming factory will be placed in Nuevo Leon, located near the international boundary separating the United States of America and Mexico.
Recently, Governor Samuel Garcia of Nuevo Leon confirmed the following information, as reported by Reuters via Autoblog:
“They are waiting for the final permits … once that’s done, they can start, hopefully, this very month, in March.”

In addition, Tesla intends to break records by constructing the factory in a matter of months and transitioning to EV production in less than a year. Still, it also intends to build the world’s largest electric vehicle factory.
Mexican officials have revealed that Giga Mexico will be built on a massive plot of land and require a $5 billion investment.
In addition to EVs, the plant may eventually produce batteries and computer chips.
The approval of the Tesla factory by Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador also provides an opportunity for Tesla’s suppliers and other associated parties to consider Mexico. Furthermore, it strikes an optimistic note with possible investors.
