How does it work?
As part of the latest software update, Tesla EVs will automatically activate their hazard lights upon airbag deployment.
The hazard lights will also flash faster than when drivers are manually activating them. According to the announcement, the update covers Model 3 and Ys along with the 2020 and beyond model years of the Model S and X.
With this new feature, drivers would not need to worry about activating the hazard lights in alarming situations like crashes.
Significance
This new safety feature will substantially aid in avoiding further accidents by informing nearby drivers and emergency responders of an accident.
It would increase the Tesla car’s visibility, considering its hazard lights will flash faster than normal. For comparison, below is the demonstration of manually activated hazard lights at normal speeds:

All that said, it will substantially reduce the risk of more accidents or collisions with other cars on the road.
