Tesla’s estimated order backlog in the global market reportedly stabilized above the 50,000 unit threshold in the past few months. Remarkably, this volume represents a notable decline from approximately 100,000 units in Q1 2023.
Tesla’s global order backlog as of Aug 16
The Musk-led company’s global order backlog was about 54,000 electric vehicles as of August 16, prominent Tesla stats and forecasts source Troy Teslike (@TroyTeslike / X) revealed. According to the data, this volume equates to approximately 18 days of production capacity.
InsideEVs pointed out that this volume is similar to Tesla’s July record. Moreover, the estimations usually varied from 49,000 units to 60,000 units since mid-June.
It must also be noted that the presented numbers are according to “carefully tracked Tesla-related stats (production volume, average wait times for each model/trim).”

As you can observe in the table, Tesla appears to avoid dropping below 50,000 order backlogs and around two weeks of production capacity. The American automaker’s efforts in maintaining this level are unsurprising, given that it is necessary from the logistical view.
Tesla constantly implemented major price cuts and incentives to entice more customers to order its electric cars. As for product improvement, the company has been developing its technologies, such as the FSD and Superchargers, among others. It also recently debuted its new Tesla Model 3 Highland.
Tesla expects its planned factory upgrades to slow down its vehicle production in H2 2023. Meanwhile, the revamped Model 3 version can potentially accumulate a substantial number of orders.
Order backlog per market
The supply-demand balance in certain markets remained “too low” for all key markets like the US, Europe, and China.
The report asserted that US and Canadian customers usually wait for two weeks at the shortest for nearly all Tesla EVs. For reference, the wait time in these two markets was only 11 days, two weeks prior.
On the other hand, customer wait times in Europe are longer at 27 days. Meanwhile, Chinese customers usually wait for their Tesla car orders for 17 days. However, it must be noted that this number was before the arrival of the Model 3 Highland.
Estimated order backlog (change in around 2 weeks):
Markets | Units | Wait Times (Per Day) | Changes |
United States: | 14,246 | 14 days | up by 3 days |
Canada: | 728 | 14 days | up by 3 days |
Europe: | 20,034 | 27 days | down by 4 days |
China: | 14,777 | 17 days | up by 2 days |
other: | 4,078 | 17 days | down by 15 days |
Total: | 53,863 | 18 days | stable |

The demand for Tesla’s electric cars is expected to increase further with the arrival of the new Model 3 Highland and the imminent launch of the highly awaited Cybertruck. Tesla also plans to produce a mass-market model in India with a base price of $24,000, which it plans to sell globally.
