The wide adoption of electric vehicles is continuously progressing worldwide, with startups and legacy companies racing to launch the most advanced and high-tech offerings of different sizes. However, options for smaller e-SUVs remain narrow for customers compared to the broader availability of bigger ones.
Finally, Swedish automaker Volvo has unveiled its all-new Volvo EX30 in New York. It is a compact battery-powered SUV with a length of 166 inches and a height of 61 inches. It claims to offer multiple luxury features and technologies for a competitive price.
Volvo EX30 details
Entry-level variant (Single motor)
Volvo has already announced plans to launch the new EX30 in the summer of next year. Its entry-level variant will have a base price of just $35,000. This price is arguably fair enough, considering that the variant’s single motor can support a driving range of up to 275 miles between charges.
In addition, the EX30’s starting price is way lower than the standard prices of other models at over $53,000.
It must also be noted that the entry-level variant offers luxury features such as the following:
- Android Automotive-supported 12.3-inch touchscreen
- Wireless Apple CarPlay
- Standard Pilot Assist and rear passenger detection
- Cyclist detection, etc.
Moreover, it also boasts an appealing Scandinavian minimalist interior based on recycled and sustainable materials.
Dual-motor AWD
Volvo also offers an upgraded dual-motor AWD for the new EX30. It has an acceleration time of 0-60 mph in just 3.4 seconds, advancing its position as the brand’s fastest vehicle regardless of powertrain. It also beats the famous Tesla Model Y‘s acceleration time of 4.4 seconds.
It also has a spacious interior, as the company ensured its minimalistic design. For instance, Volvo incorporated the soundbar across the windshield width rather than using many separate speakers.
The automaker also transferred basic controls to the center console to simplify the operability of the EV, making it more user-friendly. Moreover, the EV boasts multiple storage solutions, including cubby holes, a center-mounted glove box, a removable tray for rear passengers, etc.
The EV front also offers two USB-C ports at the front and another two for rear seat passengers. It also boasts an innovative dual-phone wireless charging pad between the front seats.
As expected for its compact size, the rear area of the car may feel narrow for six-footer people. Nonetheless, the EV offers a remarkable overall cargo space of 31.9 cubic feet.
