New city car
Details revealed by China‘s industry and information technology ministry indicate that BYD will soon expand its lineup with the Seagull, a new city car.
The forthcoming electric car will be a member of the manufacturer’s Ocean series, including the Dolphin, Seal, Destroyer 05, and Frigate 07.
The Seagull will be available this year and cost between 60,000 and 100,000 yuan (RM38,357 and RM63,928), according to CarNewsChina.
Smaller than the Dolphin model
The smallest Ocean vehicle, measuring 3,780 mm long, 1,715 mm wide, and 1,540 mm tall with a wheelbase that spans 2,500 mm, is a five-door hatchback with four seats. The Dolphin is 55 mm wider, 30 mm more elevated, and 345 mm longer.
The Seagull will have angular headlamps (LEDs are optional), black plastic cladding, a roof spoiler, and taillights that resemble those on the BYD D1 small MPV, according to the MIIT images.
The curb weight is between 1,160 and 1,240 kg, and the wheel sizes range from 15 to 16 inches.
The interior, which is also partially inspired by the Dolphin, is seen in spy shots posted by the publication.
It features two dashboard displays, a dual-tier center console with two cup holders and a wireless charging pad, and a three-spoke steering wheel with an outward-facing airbag module.
Regarding the drivetrain, the Seagull will utilize a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery produced by FinDreams, a subsidiary of BYD.
The battery has an unconfirmed energy capacity of 30.7 kWh and powers a 75 PS electric motor (74 hp or 55 kW). The Leap T03, the Chery Unbounded Pro (also known as the Chery QQ Wujie Pro), and the Ora White Cat by Great Wall Motor are competitors in this market.
