GigaTexas is expanding once more after obtaining approval from the City of Austin for a Megapack Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) on August 9, according to the filings.
Tesla‘s Megapack, the electric car commercial battery, will run one of the largest production facilities of the company. Megapacks are employed in numerous applications worldwide and can store 3 MWh of energy, sufficient to power 3,600 houses on average for one hour.
Tesla will probably produce between 500,000 and 1 million automobiles at the Gigafactory Texas when it operates at total capacity in a few years. In addition, the BESS project is believed to address the company’s problem with the unpredictable weather conditions, especially during summer and winter in Texas. In fact, Tesla had to deal with this directly during the initial stages of the factory’s construction last year.
The typical regulatory procedures, which Tesla had to go through, were finally finished last week. With its Megapack projects, Tesla has recently made tremendous progress, building relationships worldwide and advancing its energy technologies.
