Electric vehicle giant Tesla will once again allow its owners to transfer their Full Self-Driving (FSD) suite to another model, Chief Executive Elon Musk announced during the 2024 Annual Shareholder Meeting on Thursday.
Tesla may allow FSD transfers in Q3 2024
A Tesla shareholder asked CEO Elon Musk if the company would permanently authorize FSD transfers across its electric vehicles at the recent annual event.
While the Tesla boss looked skeptical as he considered an answer, one of the audience members suddenly shouted that the company should allow FSD transfers for “just one more quarter.”
Delivering another good news to Tesla owners, CEO Musk conceded to the shareholders’ demand.
“Okay, one more quarter. We got it—one more quarter.”

Tesla has not yet released an official date for the FSD transfers relaunch. However, considering the second quarter will soon end, the offer will probably occur in the third quarter.
Decision follows prior “one-time amnesty” offer
In hindsight, Tesla allowed FSD transfers for the first time in history in 2023. In response to an investor query about whether the transfer could be used as a demand lever, CEO Musk said that the deal would become available in the third quarter as a “one-time amnesty.”
Ironically, the Musk-led company has relaunched the FSD transfer offer several times since then.
That considered, it remains unclear if this offer would be the last chance for Tesla owners to transfer their FSD suite.
FSD push
Tesla has announced multiple FSD-related incentives over the past few months as it seeks to promote the advanced driver-assistance system (ADAS) among its current and future owners.
In March 2024, Tesla launched the one-month free FSD trial for the first time. It also imposed mandatory test drives with the FSD software for new customers.
Tesla has also officially ditched the “beta” moniker with the release of the FSD v12. It now uses “FSD (Supervised).” Efforts are also ongoing to launch the FSD in foreign markets, particularly China.
Tesla is also set to finally introduce the highly awaited Robotaxi on August 8, 2024.
