Tesla China ramps up production of Model 3 and Model Y electric vehicles in response to a recent update to its initial delivery time estimates, according to InsideEVs.
The adjustment affects all other MIC Model 3 and Model Y, and it follows the entry-level Tesla Model Y RWD’s delivery estimates reduction from 4-8 weeks to 1-4 weeks.
Impressively, there could be a 30-50% reduction depending on the ordered version, as per Tesla’s website. For instance, the cars ordered today are anticipated to arrive 6 weeks earlier than before.
For reference:
Estimated delivery times (new orders): |
· Tesla Model 3 RWD (LFP): 6-10 weeks (from 12-16)· Tesla Model 3 Performance: 6-10 weeks (from 12-16)· Tesla Model Y RWD (LFP): 1-4 weeks (no change)· Tesla Model Y Long Range AWD: 10-14 weeks (from 16-20)· Tesla Model Y Performance: 6-10 weeks (from 12-16) |
Notably, the recent reduction of the estimated delivery times in Tesla Giga Shanghai is good news for the customers as it resulted in increased production.
In the long run, Tesla is expected to produce about 100,000 MIC Model 3/Model Y monthly (1.1-1.2 million annually). According to a preliminary report, August may be close to a record month of about 77,000 units.
Other regions might also witness an improved estimated delivery time given that the Chinese factory also exports cars to other markets, including Europe.
Since the relationship between supply and demand is always dynamic, especially in such a volatile market, only time will truly be able to predict what will happen.
For instance, the wait periods will lengthen once more if Tesla cars are in high demand at specific pricing.
It is worth noting that even the ordering options for one of the models, the Tesla Model 3 Long Range (AWD), have been removed at least until 2023.
Given that North America currently has one of the longest wait times, it would be fantastic for the customers if Tesla could also cut the delivery time estimates there.
