The XPeng G9 SUV offered in Europe will have some slight adjustments from the one first launched in the EV company’s home market China.
Furthermore, in comparison to the Chinese model, the XPeng G9 that will be offered in Sweden, Netherlands, Denmark, and Norway will have two fewer sensors.
Removing Lidar from G9
The three-dimensional lidar was one of the sensors removed from the XPeng G9 before it was exported to Europe.
Martin Stegelmeier, XPeng’s head of European product planning, told Automotive News Europe that the cost was the primary factor in removing lidar from the G9.
“Lidar is extremely cost intensive. We want to be at the forefront of ADAS for European carmakers, but we also have to offer a competitive price. With lidar, we wouldn’t be able to do that.”
Martin Stegelmeier, XPeng’s head of European product planning
The argument that Stegelmeier made was reasonable. XPeng is a newcomer to the automobile market. Therefore, the startup must make every effort to make its products appealing to consumers.
XPeng is using the prices of its vehicles as a primary selling point in Europe. It is made clear by the price of the G9, which is over 20% lower than that of comparable competitors like the BMW iX3.
XPeng G9, an affordable all-electric SUV
The price of the XPeng G9 is higher than that of comparable models, such as the Tesla Model Y, which saw price reductions in January and is now more accessible to consumers.
Nevertheless, the G9 is longer than the Model Y, measuring 4891 millimeters compared to 4750 millimeters for its competitor Tesla.
In the Netherlands, the XPeng G9 can be purchased for a starting price of 57,990 euros. You can also get it with a battery pack with either 78 kWh or 98 kWh capacity.
If the G9 is being charged most efficiently, charging speeds can reach up to 300 kW, ranging from 270 kW.
Even though it does not have a lidar, the G9 still has 29 sensors that assist the vehicle in performing supported driving features such as adaptive cruise control, lane centering, and effective lane changes.
