Sono Motors, the German automotive startup, continues to expand on its recent successes in the automobile sector. In fact, Sono’s demand for solar-powered electric vehicles has increased by over 32,000 units due to FINN’s boost in the earlier Sion reservation of up to 12,600 units, according to electrek.
FINN, the Munich-based car subscription platform and Sono Motors’ first B2B reservation holder in 2020 signed a Letter of Intent for reservation and purchase of 12,600 Sion. In order to offer an entire fleet of sustainable vehicle options to its own consumers, FINN decided to increase its initial, non-binding reservation from 5,500 Sion solar electric cars to the mentioned 12,600 SEVs.
In addition, Sono Motors has recently unveiled a new partnership agreement for the solar retrofit implementation on city buses aside from its over 20,000 reservations for the most anticipated Sion solar EV.
Automaker Sono Motors specializes in producing solar-powered automobiles and deployable solar cell technologies. Impressively, its SEV can add 70 to 150 miles of range each week from solar power by integrating specialized solar panels into the exterior of its Sion flagship model.
During a celebration event in July, Sono Motors unveiled the Sion solar electric vehicle’s production design. It entails a number of enhancements to Sion’s appearance and performance.
That said, consumer and commercial interest in the Sion continuously grows as its production is scheduled to begin in the second half of 2023.
Additionally, Sono Motor declared earlier this week that it had received more than 20,000 consumer direct reservations. For non-binding bookings, the typical down payment is roughly 2,000 euros. It is worth noting that if all of those reservations end up being purchases, the total would be over 502.5 million euros.
In addition, a letter of intent between Sono Motors and ÖPNV-Service Hagen to collaborate on the implementation of the former’s Solar Bus Kit was also made public. In order to aid in the solar technology of the public transportation sector, ÖPNV-Service Hagen is committed to providing installation, servicing, and logistical services.
More impressively, the Sion solar electric vehicle is now more in demand and may have a wider market reach thanks to a new arrangement with a former client disclosed today.
Currently, FINN has 30% electric vehicles in its fleet, but it aspires to go greener with its expanded order of solar electric cars from Sono Motors. Despite Sion manufacturing being scheduled to begin in 2023, Sono claims that it cannot send FINN its first SEVs until 2024, and even then, only 100 units will be sent.
But if everything goes according to plan, Sono Motors expects to deliver 2,500 more Sion vehicles to FINN annually after the initial 100 units, completing the present order by 2029.
It is worth noting that before the decade’s end, Sono Motors could potentially deliver over 32,000 solar electric vehicles to clients when combined with the 20,000 consumer reservations now in the books.
