EV charging service provider NaaS has finally introduced its first automatic charging robot for electric vehicles in China.
According to the press release, the newly developed charging technology will automatically locate your EV, smart charge it, and accept auto payments.
“With the future popularization of self-driving vehicles, compatible automatic charging robots will become indispensable infrastructure. Intelligent and unmanned EV charging will create a whole new charging experience and open up a massive market for smart charging.”

NaaS’ mobile EV charging robot
The newly unveiled smart EV charging robot from NaaS’ exterior is painted orange and white, making it look appealing.
As mentioned, these charging robots have the ability to dock automatically with EV charging outlets and finish the charging and payment processes all at once.
Remarkably, this new EV charging robot is also waterproof and shockproof, making it suitable to operate in varying places’ and conditions.
Apart from that, it also boasts the following features:
- deep learning
- V2X
- 5G
- simultaneous localization and mapping
- other underlying technology capabilities
With all these features, EV drivers can easily book the charging robot with a click. It will immediately locate the EV and start the following process:
- park itself near the port of the EV
- dock into the charging port of the EV through its mechanical arm
- charge the EV
- undock from the charging port
After the charging process, it can go directly to another booking or return to its charging station to replenish.
According to NaaS, its charging power and battery capacity setup are flexible, and it can interface with significant OEMs via an open API.
Indeed, this approach will make the EV charging process enjoyable and convenient for EV owners as it allows unmanned service anytime and anywhere.
Unfortunately, the Chinese company has not yet disclosed its deployment strategy for the newest technology. It also did not indicate the schedule, pricing, and relevant specifications of the EV charging robot.

In hindsight, South Korean automaker Hyundai has also developed a similar charging technology, named Automatic Charging Robot (ACR). As we previously reported, it is a one-arm robot that can plug its cable into the EV’s charging port and remove it once completed.
