Test results
The 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 6 has undergone strict IIHS safety tests. According to Teslarati, the electric sedan gained “Good” scores in all categories of Crashworthiness, including the following:
- Small overlap front: driver-side
- Small overlap front: passenger-side
- Moderate overlap front: original test
- Side: update test
Moreover, it also performed excellently in the Crash avoidance and mitigation category. Hyundai gained a “Superior” score in this particular category for the following tests:
- Front Crash Prevention: vehicle-to-pedestrian (day)
- Front Crash Prevention: vehicle-to-pedestrian (night)
However, it only scored “Acceptable” for its headlights, which is only one of the model’s poorest scores in IIHS tests. It also received an “Acceptable” rating for LATCH’s ease of use.
The IIHS also commented on the Hyundai Ioniq 6’s low and high beams.
“On the straightaway, visibility was good on the left side of the road and fair on the right side. On curves, visibility was good on the sharp right curve, fair on the gradual right and sharp left curves, and inadequate on the gradual left curve. High-beam assist compensates for some limitations of this vehicle’s low beams on the straightaway and all 4 curves.”

Meanwhile, it gained a “Good” score in the seat belts and child restraints category, particularly for seatbelt reminders.
“It’s exciting to see the IONIQ 6, Hyundai’s newest electric vehicle, obtain the highest level of safety. Making sure safety continues to be a priority in alternatively powered vehicles is critical if we are going to achieve the vision of zero traffic fatalities.”
