Hertz announced the launch of its new public-private partnership with Atlanta called “Hertz Electrifies Atlanta” on April 19.
The program will see the American car rental company deploy an additional 4,000 EVs to Atlanta.
For context, Hertz’s third-biggest fleet in the US is already operating in Atlanta. Now, it is set to substantially expand further with the launch of Hertz Electrifies.
Purpose of the partnership
The city of Atlanta aims to boost its electric vehicle uptake and take advantage of the technology’s environmental and economic benefits.
As mentioned, 4,000 rental EVs from Hertz will hit the Atlantan roads. The mix includes EVs from established brands General Motors, Polestar, and Tesla.
These EVs will apparently be used “for leisure and business customers as well as rideshare drivers,” per the press release.
“We are thrilled to partner with Mayor Dickens in launching Hertz Electrifies Atlanta, particularly given the city’s position as a global transportation hub and an important center of innovation and commerce.
As Hertz creates the largest electric vehicle rental fleet in North America, we are proud to bring a range of EVs to our broad customer set in Atlanta, and to work with Atlanta College and Career Academy to help train the EV workforce of the future.”
Stephen Scherr, Hertz chair and CEO
The partnership is critical for Mayor Dicken’s commitment to achieving the 2035 target of 100% clean energy vehicles under the City of Atlanta Historic Clean Energy Plan.
“The City of Atlanta wants 100% clean energy for 100% of Atlantans by 2035, and public-private partnerships like the Hertz Electrifies Atlanta initiative will help us move closer to our goal.”
Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens
Hertz’s expands electrification initiatives in Atlanta
Apart from deploying thousands of rental EVs, Hertz has also partnered with bp to install up to eight public fast chargers at Hertz Uber Rental and EV Charging Location.
Hertz also collaborated with Atlanta College and Career Academy (ACCA) as it aims to spread EV awareness and training opportunities to students. Hertz gave ACCA a brand-new Chevy Bolt EV in honor of this significant partnership. It will also open summer jobs through Atlanta’s Summer Youth Employment Program.
“Access to hands-on experience with the latest technology is critical for Atlanta Public Schools scholars as we prepare them for careers we can’t even begin to imagine.
We are very thankful to partner with Hertz to bring an electric vehicle to our flagship auto servicing program at Atlanta College and Career Academy and look forward to working together to ensure students have the skills they need to succeed in the future.”
