BYD, (“Build Your Dreams”) unveiled Singapore’s first Blade Battery-powered bus at the 4th LTA-UITP Singapore International Transport Congress and Exhibition (SITCE).
Singapore International Transport Congress and Exhibition
The SITCE is hosted every two years in the Asia-Pacific region. It is organized by MSI Global Pte Ltd., the Land Transportation Authority (LTA) of Singapore, and the International Association of Public Transport (UITP).
It is themed on the ‘Heartbeat of Mobility’. Additionally, the event explores ways to facilitate daily commutes and offers solutions for a safer, more convenient, inclusive, and sustainable public transport system, as per the press release by the company.
Notably, the event aims to bring urban mobility stakeholders together to reimagine the public transport landscape.
Q1R Tractors & B12A03 electric buses
BYD unveiled its Q1R tractors and B12A03 electric buses at the three-day exhibition. The Q1R tractor’s battery layout is modified for enhanced battery capacity, endurance, and safety performance. Its carrying capacity is also improved, with the electronic controls upgraded to a five-in-one system.
The B12A03 bus, a model BYD designed explicitly for the Singapore market, is built as a 12-meter full-low-floor bus with three doors. Adopting a fourth-generation aluminum body, the BYD model is also the first pure electric bus with the Blade Battery.
Public Transport Electrification Strategy
As one of the 62 companies invited, the Chinese automaker launched its Public Transport Electrification strategy in 2010. Continuous technological innovations and breakthroughs have allowed the company’s commercial vehicles to amass a substantial global footprint on six continents, including over 400 cities and over 70 countries.
BYD’s industrial chain of commercial vehicles
BYD has set up a complete industrial chain of commercial vehicles that combines after-sales services, design, planning, production, research and development, and sales.
Furthermore, it manufactured commercial vehicles covering the following market segments: buses, coaches, construction and sanitation, taxis, airport, warehousing, seaport, and mining operators.
BYD’s booth welcomed guests from over 3000 companies and clients, with the B12A03 as the main attraction.
Clients in attendance
Key clients in attendance included the ComfortDelgro Bus, SMRT Corporation Ltd, Leisure Frontier, National University of Singapore, Land Transport Authority, Ministry of Home Affairs, and Tower Transit.
Q1R tractors also attracted many key clients from logistics industries such as YCH, Port of Singapore Authority, Precast Concrete and Einride Swedish Logistics.
The B12A03 gained 400 votes from the Land Transport Authority, and the Q1R has earned 50 intent orders so far.
In public transportation, the carmaker utilizes advanced technologies in commercial vehicles through continuous research and innovation. Targeting various public transportation sectors, the manufacturer is dedicated to providing more reliable fully-electric solutions for the market by creating safer, more comfortable, efficient, and intelligent electric commercial vehicles. Additionally, the company plans to offer new ideas for green urban mobility and transportation’s future.
BYD’s NEV sales
In October 2022, the company released that it had sold 217,816 Neighborhood Electric Vehicles (NEVs) to the global market, a year-on-year increase of 142.2%.
