Chinese EV and battery giant BYD will reportedly introduce its newest technology, “Yunnian” (云辇), at a company event at its Shenzhen global headquarters on April 10.
BYD’s latest technologies
The leading Chinese automaker formerly introduced some of its major technologies, such as the following:
- DM hybrid system
- e-Platform
- blade battery
- CTB technology
- e⁴
For those wondering, the e⁴ is the tech platform incorporated in BYD’s recently launched brand Yangwang. e⁴ is apparently the first mass-produced quad-motor independent drive tech platform in China.
Now, the mysterious Yunnian system is set to join the list above in the coming month.
What’s known so far about BYD’S Yunnian tech?
Unfortunately, BYD has not yet disclosed any relevant details regarding Yunnian. It only stated that the system is a major tech that will be used for the “intelligent integration of NEVs in the vertical direction,” CnEVPost reports.
The company submitted an application for the trademark Yunnian with the Chinese authorities on January 4, 2023.
It seems that the application was successful, as BYD announced last week that the introduction of the system would happen soon. The automaker teased that the Yunnian will enhance the vehicle’s stability while driving on rough roads.
As for the name, the Chinese publication noted that the rare Chinese character “辇” traditionally denotes the vehicle the emperor rode. Meanwhile, the “云” translates to the cloud.
