American robotics firm Boston Dynamics launched its high-tech Spot robot dog in India. At the same time, Korean automaker Hyundai debuted its Ioniq 5 EV at the Auto Expo 2023 in Greater Noida, as per DNA.
Boston Dynamics and Hyundai’s connection: The Spot
Hyundai partnered with Boston Dynamics in 2021 to buy the latter’s innovative 4-legged robot, the Spot, to guard its plants. Interestingly, this technology is an AI-powered robot with remote control and autonomous navigation capabilities.
Remarkably, its remote-control capabilities function through a webpage that live streams its movement around the facility. With this, the staff in charge can remotely monitor the industrial areas. Meanwhile, its AI technology aids Spot’s capability to sense danger and alarm the personnel monitoring the secure webpage.
Furthermore, it boasts a thermal camera and 3D LiDAR features, offering exceptional capabilities. These include detecting people and potential fire hazards, monitoring high-temperature, and perceiving the door’s movement.
That said, the Spot robots effectively monitor the South Korean automaker’s plants, offering capabilities that a human might find hard to do.
Notably, Boston Dynamics’ quadruped Spot was the first commercial offering released in the market in June 2020. A few years have passed, and Spot’s popularity has significantly expanded. It reached the following industries: “power utilities, construction, manufacturing, oil and gas, and mining.”

The Ioniq 5 has a 72.6 kWh battery and 2WD system. It has a peak power of 160 PS and a torque of 350 Nm. The vehicle can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.6 seconds.
According to ARAI, the Ioniq 5 will have a maximum driving range of about 631 kilometers when outfitted with two-wheel drive (2WD) and a 72.6-kWh battery.
