Geely-owned electric automaker Zeekr officially launched the new 007 electric sedan just 40 days after its unveiling. Impressively, it has already recorded more than 50,000 pre-orders in the world’s largest auto market.
Zeekr launches the 007 in China
Zeekr started accepting pre-orders for the all-new 007 electric sedan last November at the Guangzhou Auto Show. As mentioned, pre-orders for the new Zeekr EV have already garnered a total of 51,569. Chinese customers’ enormous interest in the new model is unsurprising, considering that its price only starts below $30,000.
Zeekr 007’s initial batch rolled off the production line on December 23, according to Cars News China. The automaker finally launched the model’s two variants yesterday, December 27. It includes the standard variant and the ultra-long-range variant. Meanwhile, customer deliveries will kick off in China as early as next year, with plans to expand its reach to other global markets.
Design
The all-electric 007 is apparently Zeekr’s inaugural sedan offering and also its first-ever model for the mass market. Former Audi and Bentley designer Stefan Sielaff led the 007’s design and styling and based the model on Zeekr’s new Hidden Energy minimalist design language.
Interestingly, the model features a more traditional look than its siblings 001 and X. Its front fascia sports thin LED headlights and a full-width display that supports text customization. The first production model had the message “The 1st Zeekr 007” on display. It offers six body paint options, including Dawn Brown, Clear Sky Blue, Mist Silver, Misty Gray, Bright Moon White, and Polar Night Black. It has dimensions of 4880 (4865)/1900/1450 mm with a wheelbase of 2928 mm.
It will reportedly feature an integrated mega-casting rear-end aluminum body with 43,500 N·m/deg torsional stiffness, Electrek noted. It is also the first model of the brand to use the newly developed audio system and ADAS with a LiDAR sensor, 12 HD cameras, and five millimeter-wave radars.
Technical details
Zeekr equipped the 007 with an 800V platform and its new lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cells and battery packs. It can apparently provide a range of 500km (311 miles) in just 15 minutes using a DC fast charger.
Finally, Zeekr unveiled the Standard Range variant yesterday with this new battery tech that enables a CLTC-rated range of 688km (428 miles) between charges.
Meanwhile, the Long-Range variant uses CATL’s Qilin batteries that enable a CLTC-rated range of 870km (540 miles). More impressively, the 007 boasts an acceleration of 0 to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) in just 2.84 seconds. However, the entry-level variant can do so in a more extended time of 5.4 seconds.
It offers five various trims with a price range of RMB 209,900 ($29,475) to RMB 299,900 ($42,300).
Geely’s portfolio currently includes the flagship 001, multipurpose vehicle (MPV) 009, and the most recent SUV X. Now, the addition of the new 007 will undoubtedly aid Zeekr’s intensified expansion efforts as it seeks to compete in the highly competitive EV market. Zeekr aims to start customer deliveries on January 1, 2024.
