German legacy automaker Volkswagen has finally unveiled the facelifted Golf’s plug-in hybrid versions ahead of the fully electrified ones.
As per the press release, the new plug-in hybrid versions now have an increased all-electric range of approximately 100 kilometers.
Power and performance
The new plug-in hybrid Golfs retained their old names, eHybrid and GTE. Interestingly, the GTE seems to be an electrified version of the classic GTI.
Both of the plug-in hybrids feature a 1.5-liter TSI eco2 gasoline engine and an electric motor. They also have the same 19.7-kilowatt-hour battery pack that generates up to 62 miles. In hybrid mode, the plug-in hybrid Golfs can enable up to 620 miles.
The battery can also support both AC and DC fast chargers at up to 11 kilowatts and up to 50 kW, respectively.
The eHybrid generates a combined output of 201 horsepower, while the GTE is more potent at 268 horsepower. Both versions transmit energy to the wheels through a six-speed dual-clutch gearbox.
New exterior design
The new Volkswagen Golf boasts redesigned LED headlights, slightly updated LED taillights, and a new front bumper.
However, it will offer optional “performance” headlights under a package. It will also come with an illuminated VW logo and a horizontal LED light strip in the radiator grille.
“The Golf has been at the heart of the Volkswagen brand for half a century now, offering affordable mobility for all at the highest technical level. This is precisely what we are now building on with the new evolutionary stage – with even higher efficiency, comfort and quality and a new operating concept. The Golf does not get any better than this.”

Interior features
The facelifted Volkswagen Golf features a new infotainment system that uses the company’s fourth-gen MIB4 system. It offers improved graphics and a new menu structure to simply operability.
It will also offer two screen options, including the 10.4″ or a larger 12.9″ touchscreen. There are also illuminated touch sliders below the touchscreen for volume and temperature control. However, it has no physical knob alternatives for less techy customers.
However, Volkswagen has yet to announce more specific details about the facelifted Volkswagen Golf, including its official pricing and launch date.
