Uber has challenged 50 Australians to give up their cars for a month in favor of app-based travel, walking, and public transportation.
The company created the ‘One Less Car’ trial to address our over-reliance on private vehicles, with Australia having the second-largest rate of private car ownership per capita.
Uber’s goal for a sustainable future
While the campaign’s primary goal is to reduce the country’s reliance on automobiles, the trial also aims to promote a more sustainable future.
Uber’s global goal is to complete 100% of passenger trips with zero-emission vehicles, public transportation, or micro-mobility platforms by 2040.
The participants in the trial will each receive more than $1300 in Uber credit, which they are free to spend on a variety of different transportation options.
One Less Car
During the course of the competition, all participants will be questioned to ascertain the extent of any potential cost savings brought on by reduced vehicle ownership.
Using personal health trackers, the company will also evaluate its impact on people’s health and well-being.
Drivers in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, and Canberra who are willing to go without their cars for the duration of the ‘One Less Car’ trial are eligible to participate in the program.
