Reports say that Tesla recently bought land near the Gigafactory Berlin and is planning its expansion.
Reports indicated that Tesla’s Gigafactory in Berlin would expand its operations after purchasing 100-acre land near the Berlin facility. This will be an additional expansion to the current 300-acre of land where the Berlin facility stands. The land acquisition will be used for freight station, storage purposes, and further manufacturing expansions.
According to German media outlet rbb24, ‘The Tesla company is planning to massively expand its property in Grünheide (Oder-Spree). The rbb learned this from official circles. Accordingly, the company intends to purchase approximately 100 hectares of land located directly east of the Tesla site between the RE1 railway line and the L23 and L38 state roads.’
The media outlet also stated that Tesla wants to keep the land vacant so that they use it for manufacturing operations in the future. The additional 100-acre land will also be used for storage and a possible train station.
The final price for the land purchase is still unclear. However, it is recalled that the current Gigafactory Berlin was purchased for €40.91 million ($45.48 million).
The purchase of the additional land will still need the approval of the Municipality of Grünheide. Tesla wants to propose to the community representatives to take the first steps in June. Water association Strausberg-Erkner will also have to approve Tesla’s expansion plans.
Reports say that Tesla will begin construction in June 2023 at the earliest.
