As it achieved sales success in China, Tesla sold 46,694 Model Ys in September, as per Drive Tesla Canada. It is hailed to be the top-selling model among SUVs.
Additionally, the data from the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) showed a 41.4% increase in sales in September 2021. It tops China’s SUV sales chart, followed by the BYD Song (45,934) and GWM Haval H6 (16,887).
It is worth noting that Model Y was also the best-selling car in Germany in September, even beating out the VW Golf. On the other hand, other premium models below Model Y for the first quarter were the Mercedes-Benz GLC (45,037), BMW X3 (39,592), and Audi Q5 (36,624).
Reports in March revealed the Tesla Model Y is followed by BYD Song (26,723), Changan CS75 (22,811), and Haval H6 (19,303). Meanwhile, in the first quarter, BYD Song (73, 704) and Haval H6 (71,411) were still behind Model Y. Now, the electric SUV ranks second with 219,112 deliveries in 2022, a 136% increase from the same period in 2021. This brings Model Y just below BYD Song, which accumulated 288,768 sales for the first three quarters of 2022.
With production upgrades at Giga Shanghai, increased production of the electric SUV should be able to maintain its spot in the ranking for the rest of 2022. In its current performance, it is showing a promising future.
