Tesla‘s official website for its flagship battery indicates that the earliest expected delivery date for new Megapack battery orders is in the third quarter of 2024.
Supply and demand constraints
According to Teslarati, the TOC San Joaquin Valley group was able to fly a drone over Tesla’s Lathrop Megafactory. It reported that the Lathrop Megafactory has been functioning nonstop.
In fact, the said facility that produces Megapack batteries has recently been featured in videos and pictures, showing that it is bustling with activity as this year draws to a close.
“Demand for our storage products remains in excess of our ability to supply. We are in the process of ramping production at our dedicated 40 GWh Megapack factory in Lathrop, California, to address the growing demand.”

Megapack batteries’ role in Tesla’s growth
For Tesla to achieve its vision of a future powered by sustainable energy, its Megapack batteries are essential.
Tesla’s Q3 2022 Update Letter states that the company’s Q3 energy storage deployments climbed to 2.1 GWh, up 62% year-over-year. The automaker noted that this rise is remarkable considering the chip constraint.
It is also worth noting that Tesla Energy has the potential to surpass Tesla’s EV division, as Elon Musk has repeatedly emphasized in the past.
Although the costs of battery cells from suppliers currently play a significant role in determining the margins on the Megapack and Tesla’s other battery storage products like the Powerwall, the products would possibly be more financially beneficial as Tesla steps up its own battery manufacturing capacity or the very least nabs better deals with its suppliers in the future.
