Electric vehicle giant Tesla stunned the automotive space with the launch of two autonomous drones to streamline some activities at the Gigafactory Berlin in Germany. As Tesla emphasized in the official X post, the two autonomous drones “accurately count up to 12.000 pallets a day – each!”
Pathfinder and Opportunity drones
Tesla named the innovative autonomous drones after two of NASA’s iconic Mars spacecraft: “Pathfinder” and “Opportunity.”
They assist Tesla in efficiently and accurately completing tasks that may take human workers a long time. They count pallets in the Giga Berlin, which is a crucial part of managing inventory and logistics.
As mentioned, Pathfinder and Opportunity can count up to 12,000 pallets every day. Interestingly, Benzinga pointed out the autonomous drones’ similarity to RAWview’s inventAIRy XL. For context, it is also an autonomous drone that boosts “stock taking efficiency and accuracy in racked warehouses.”
Benefits
Pathfinder and Opportunity are capable of autonomously roaming around through Giga Berlin’s warehouse. Therefore, they can accumulate real-time data on the facility, such as inventory, locations, and possible discrepancies.
Their capability to count thousands of pallets each day significantly improves the German factory’s production and cost efficiency, as it enables human workers to take on other tasks.
Pathfinder and Opportunity’s notable speed and precision can optimize operations and electric vehicle production at the 740-acre facility that produces the Tesla Model Y.
Musk’s dream factory
Teslarati reported Tesla Chief Elon Musk’s vision of a hyper-automated factory similar to an alien dreadnought from years ago.
Notably, the Tesla boss originally introduced the revolutionary concept for the Model 3 production. According to Teslarati, it ditched the visionary plan due to the electric sedan’s production issues.
Now, the launch of the two autonomous drones and the imminent arrival of the Optimus Bot hints at Tesla’s advancement toward CEO Musk’s dream electric vehicle factory.
