Tesla proudly announced through its Twitter account that it had achieved its initial production target of 5,000 Model Ys per week at Giga Texas, which was the automaker’s initial volume production guidance at the plant.
The news is not surprising considering how Tesla has been ramping up the Giga Texas along with Giga Berlin to volume production.
Tesla’s 5,000-unit production mark
It is worth noting that the standard target for Tesla when ramping up a new electric vehicle to volume production at a new factory is 5,000 units a week.
Finally, Tesla revealed that Gigafactory Texas had also reached a weekly production rate of 5,000 Model Y SUVs.
Why does Giga Berlin operate faster than Giga Texas?
As some of the vehicles Giga Berlin manufactures features Tesla’s 4680 battery cells, it is encountering distinct hurdles from Giga Berlin.
For those unaware, this battery cell architecture supports the new “structural battery pack” chassis design. It also adds some complications because it is a novel method of producing electric vehicles.

We now know that Tesla can build 5,000 Model Y units weekly at Giga Texas. However, the number of production per battery type – 2170, 4680, and structural battery pack – is currently undetermined.
