Tesla may officially begin the production of the highly awaited electric pickup Cybertruck this month, as implied by the recent drone photos revealing the massive castings supply at the Giga Texas.
Drone photos
Prominent drone operator Joe Tegtmeyer spotted a significant number of front and rear Cybertruck castings sitting around the concrete platform just outside the gigafactory.
It seems that the total number of castings currently at the site is 200 units, as per the photos attached to the X post above.
InsideEVs noted that Tesla usually stacks excess castings outside the gigafactories, probably because of the lack of sufficient space inside. Therefore, there may be more castings inside Giga Texas.
Implications
The substantial reserve of front and rear castings significantly implies that Tesla may finally start the Cybertruck production very soon.
For context, the electric pickup’s production has been nearing for many months already as Tesla completed the following processes:
- early-stage validation
- public road testing
- crash assessments
- production of some of the best-built Cybertruck units
It would be unsurprising to see Tesla actually launching production this month, considering that the castings are a crucial part of the initial production.
The massive supply will also enable the Musk-led company to immediately begin the production ramp-up of the Cybertruck, considering the current two million pre-orders.
Structural battery pack deliveries caught at Giga Texas
Apart from the castings supply, Tegtmeyer also spotted another shipment at the Giga Texas that seems to contain structural battery packs on Tuesday.
However, it must be noted that there are no guarantees that these deliveries are actually for the Tesla Cybertruck.
“…This appears to be several structural battery packs being delivered on the SW receiving door … where CT’s are assembled.”
Joe Tegtmeyer
The arrival of the Cybertruck is critical for the American electric automaker to achieve its target of selling 1.8 million units this year. If the speculations that Tesla is now preparing to begin the electric pickup’s production, many customers and Tesla fans will surely celebrate.
