Subaru Electrifies the Game: By 2025, select Subaru EVs will sport Tesla’s NACS port, granting access to the vast Supercharger network. This strategic partnership promises to enhance Subaru’s electric offerings and charge up customer interest. A bold step towards Subaru’s goal of 50% global BEV sales by 2030.
NACS port integration
Subaru aims to expand the charging options of its beloved battery electric vehicle (BEV) owners by adopting the Tesla-developed NACS port as early as 2025 and beyond.
In effect, North America-based Subaru customers will officially gain access to Tesla’s enormous and reliable Supercharger network.
Notably, the 2025 timeline aligns with previous automakers’ plan in equipping the NACS port into their new BEV models for the region.
However, it must be noted that Subaru indicated that it plans to equip NACS on “certain” models. Therefore, the company may still launch some EVs featuring the CCS port by that time, as noted by BGR.
“To provide customers with access to the extensive Tesla charging network, Subaru will adopt NACS ports on certain Subaru BEVs launched in North America beginning in 2025 and will continue to advance NACS adoption for its subsequent BEVs to be launched after that.”
Adapter provision
Unlike most Tesla partners’ target of offering a NACS adapter by next year, Subaru aims to do so by 2025.
For context, brands like Ford and General Motors announced plans to release the adapter in 2024 to speed up the process of expanding their charging network in North America.
The adapter will allow Subaru owners with the Combined Charging System (CCS) to utilize Tesla Superchargers that are currently exclusive for NACS-equipped models.
