During a press conference this morning, Porsche detailed its plans for upcoming models. However, the EVs would not apparently be new sports cars.
Conversely, Porsche’s declaration concentrates on the constant expansion of its crossover lineup. The company announced for the first time an electric version of the Cayenne that will slot under a new flagship electric SUV that Porsche clarified last year.
No further information was provided regarding the Cayenne EV, which has been speculated since 2021. However, the electric crossover is anticipated to share the same PPE platform as the forthcoming Macan EV.
The new version of the third-generation vehicle
Despite this, Porsche will keep offering the Cayenne with an internal combustion engine, and this year will see the launch of a “new version of the third generation.” This modification will introduce three plug-in hybrid models with increased EV range.
The electric flagship SUV from Porsche did receive a few new details from the company.
In spite of the fact that the car manufacturer had previously stated it was going to utilize technology developed on the 2021 Mission R concept, Porsche has already confirmed that it will ride on SSP Sport, a version of the Scalable Systems Platform developed by the Volkswagen Group.
Porsche is persistent that the electric vehicle will possess “strong performance” and be equipped with “automated driving functions.”
Porsche’s Sonderwunsch program
In addition, Porsche restated that it will begin delivering the electric Macan in 2024 and that an electric version of the 718 sports cars will be available the year after.
Initially, it will coexist with the gasoline-powered Boxster and Cayman. Still, Porsche stated that “in the medium term,” it will only be made available as an electric vehicle.
During a media panel discussion, Car and Driver reports that CEO Oliver Blume stated that the gas-powered versions have roughly two years left before they are phased out once the electric vehicle (EV) is introduced. However, this will rely on the region and the local regulations.
A comparable timeframe will be followed for the Macan and Cayenne. However, he insisted that the electric 718 “will be a fantastic car in terms of sportiness and terms of driver experience and in terms of agility.”
Lastly, Porsche increasingly emphasizes its Sonderwunsch program, which creates exclusive one-off automobiles for the brand’s most fortunate and wealthy customers.
Keep an eye out for more one-of-a-kind creations from Porsche in the not-too-distant future, such as the 911 Classic Club Coupe or the 911 GT3 inspired by Le Mans.
