The press release noted that the partnership announcement occurred at the COMPUTEX press conference, attended by MediaTek CEO Rick Tsai and NVIDIA founder/CEO Jensen Huang.

Main objectives

The newly formed NVIDIA-MediaTek partnership aims to offer an all-around smarter in-car experience by incorporating NVIDIA’s AI and ADAS technologies with MediaTek’s Dimensity Auto Platform.

How would it work?

To be specific, MediaTek will incorporate an all-new NVIDIA GPU chip with NVIDIA AI and graphics intellectual property into MediaTek SoCs. Per the press release, the chiplets are linked by an ultra-fast interconnect technology.

Furthermore, MediaTek will use the newly developed auto SoCs to operate the  NVIDIA DRIVE OS, DRIVE IX, CUDA, and TensorRT software tech. Through this, the system will allow connected infotainment and in-car convenience and safety features.

“NVIDIA is a world-renowned pioneer and industry leader in AI and computing. With this partnership, our collaborative vision is to provide a global one-stop shop for the automotive industry, designing the next generation of intelligent, always-connected vehicles. Through this special collaboration with NVIDIA, we will together be able to offer a truly unique platform for the compute-intensive, software-defined vehicle of the future.”

CEO Rick Tsai

NVIDIA CEO also commented on the partnership, explaining how AI and accelerated computing drive the entire auto industry’s progress.

“AI and accelerated computing are fueling the transformation of the entire auto industry. The combination of MediaTek’s industry-leading system-on-chip plus NVIDIA’s GPU and AI software technologies will enable new user experiences, enhanced safety and new connected services for all vehicle segments, from luxury to entry-level.”
