Fermata Energy, the leading provider of V2X services, has just announced that Nissan approved its FE-15 bidirectional charger as the first bidirectional charger to be used with the Nissan LEAF in the United States.
It was reported that Nissan’s critical certification standards were met by Fermata’s FE-15 bidirectional charger and its UL 9741 certification. Having said that, it has been validated that the Nissan LEAF is compatible with the FE-15 bidirectional charger.
Nonetheless, Nissan affirms that using the authorized charger would not affect the battery warranty for the Nissan LEAF.
Currently, the Nissan LEAF is the only fully electric passenger car available on the US market that can supply energy to the grid.
That said, Fermata Energy FE-15 bidirectional charger can really be beneficial to Nissan LEAF owners. According to Fermata Energy, “LEAF owners with the Fermata Energy FE-15 bidirectional charger to park their vehicle, plug it in, and save money with their local electric utility, as well as reduce the total cost of ownership of the vehicle.”
For reference, bidirectional charging technology not only allows Nissan Leaf to be charged but also have its stored energy sent back to the grid.

The Fermata Energy Demand Charge Management application and the FE-15 charger are truly ideal for firms with fleet vehicles.
Essentially, it constantly tracks electrical demands on a building and searches for opportunities to periodically take power from the Nissan LEAF battery to provide electricity during more expensive, high-demand times.
Notably, 40 million dollars were raised by Fermata Energy in 2021, including a Series A that was headed by The Carlyle Group. Verizon Ventures, Skyview Ventures, I Squared Capital, and ClearSky were some of the additional investors.
