German legacy automaker Mercedes-Benz vehicle sales dropped 4% to 510,600 units in the third quarter of 2023 due to E-Class changeover and supply chain constraints, Automotive World reports.
Nonetheless, the company’s overall electrified vehicle sales notably grew from 19% to 98,400 units in the same period. Of that total, all-electric sales accounted for 61,600 units.
BEV sales (Jul-Sep 2023)
As mentioned, Mercedes-Benz’s battery-electric vehicle (BEV) sales increased 66% to 61,600 units from July to September.
This remarkable growth is largely due to the high demand for the EQA (+108%) and EQB (+96%) models.
Meanwhile, the Mercedes EQS and EQS SUV remain dominant in the electric luxury market, with a sales growth of 53% to 26,300 units this year to date.
The electric smart also recorded a 107% growth to 3,900 units in the third quarter of the year. Electrive reported that only the electric SUV #1 is currently available in the brand.
Top-end models’ sales, strong Mercedes-Maybach performance
Mercedes-Benz sold a total of 246,500 units (+6%) in the Top-End segment from January to September 2023.
Mercedes-AMG BEV enjoyed a sales growth of 51% in the third quarter. The G-Class sales also increased 11% ahead of its revamp in 2024.
Sales of Mercedes-Maybach also grew 26% to 6,600, while the GLS SUV had a minimal sales increase of 3% to 13,300 units.
The EQS SUV’s sales grew by a whopping 162% to 3,700 units in the same period. The S-Class suffered an 18% decline in sales to 16,900 units in Q3 2023.
“Customers continue to desire our products even in a volatile market environment, with Top-End vehicles proving popular also in the all-electric segment particularly with the EQS SUV. At the same time, we are preparing to set new benchmarks also in other segments. At the IAA in Munich, we unveiled the new Concept CLA Class and gave a first impression of how we will elevate the electric experience for our customers to a new level.”
