Italian luxury automaker Lamborghini initially announced the development of its maiden electric car in May 2021, which it plans to officially launch in 2028.
Lamborghini reportedly indicated that the planned EV is a 2+2 grand tourer. Unfortunately, the company has not yet disclosed any specific information about the mystery all-electric GT.
What’s currently known about the upcoming Lamborghini EV?
Lamborghini CEO Stephen Winkelmann asserted that the brand’s maiden all-electric vehicle offering would have a higher ground clearance than their currently available conventional sports cars, Livemint reports citing HT Auto.
The Chief executive further emphasized that the planned EV would boast a lower ground clearance than the popular Lamborghini Urus SUV.
CEO Winkelmann also noted that the company developed its maiden EV to support daily usage, beating the practicality element of Lamborghini cars like the Huracan and Revuelto.
Nonetheless, the CEO guaranteed that the new EV will not be in the crossover segment of the industry.
As mentioned, the company has yet to release specific details about the electric 2+2 GT, probably once it nears its launch date.
However, CEO Winkelmann alluded that the EV will use a different underpinning rather than the exclusive all-Lamborghini platform. It will apparently use a platform from the Volkswagen Group, given their current partnership.
Notably, this strategy is very similar with h the company’s approach to sharing its mechanical parts with other models under VW’s umbrella, including the Porsche Cayenne, among others.

Apart from the planned all-electric electric 2+2 GT that would launch in 2028, the brand is also exploring sustainable powertrain tech. In fact, its flagship model Reveulto already has a plug-in hybrid variant using a new V12 engine.
Furthermore, Lamborghini aims to launch Urus S/Performante’s plug-in hybrid variants as early as next year. The Huracan’s successor will also arrive in the same year. Meanwhile, the Urus replacement will launch in 2029 as a battery-powered model.
