South Korean automaker Kia reportedly saw a year-on-year sales growth of 9% to 232,437 units in January 2023. That figure marks the company’s strong year start and continued rebound since mid-2022.

At the same time, Kia has also been increasing its E-GMP-based BEV sales. In fact, the Kia EV6 reported a YoY wholesale sales growth of 8.5% to 6,919 units last month.
Intriguingly, Kia EV6 had no sales record in its home market, indicating that the 6,919 total were all exported. It is hard to guess the implication of the data, but it must be noted that the same period last year was also sluggish.
In retrospect, Kia EV6 reported wholesale sales of 7,628 units globally in December 2022v. Of that total, 6,391 were exported, and the remaining 1,237 were sold in South Korea.

For comparison, Kia reported sales of over 130,000 battery-electric vehicles in 2022. Considering these data, Kia aims to expand its overall sales to 3.2 million units this year. Furthermore, the automaker is also set to debut its all-new Kia EV9.
“Kia will also build on EV sales momentum through the introduction of the EV9, Kia’s all-electric large SUV due for its global debut later this year.
With the EV9, Kia will provide an unparalleled EV experience that aims to revolutionize the EV market with its strikingly contemporary exterior and interior design, over-the-air (OTA) update services and level three autonomous driving capabilities.”
