Changan Shenlan SL03 from Changan Automotive in China is reportedly a Tesla Model 3 clone, according to InsideEVs.
In retrospect, a new Chinese off-road electric vehicle with numerous characteristics and designs allegedly inspired by the GMC Hummer EV has previously been the subject of reports. It was quickly labeled a Hummer EV clone by the automotive community. But there are numerous areas where the two cars differ significantly, most notably in appearance. Now, Changan Shenlan SL03 is under the same scenario.
There are few similarities between the Changan Shenlan SL03 and the Model 3 other than that they are both sedans and share the number 3. Their interiors are entirely different. Furthermore, they have different fascia and dimensions.
Featuring a more aggressive front end and a more distinct three-box design than the Model 3, the SL03 is a sleek sedan that appears more conventional. The internet may simply be being unjust to Changan Automotive, which plans to transition to EVs by 2025, as nothing about its design even appears to have been inspired by Tesla, both inside and out.
The front fascia and the C-pillar section, along with the design of the light clusters, are more reminiscent of Nio and Xpeng sedans than anything from Tesla.
With a base price equivalent to about $26,000, the Changan Shenlan SL03 undermines the Tesla Model 3 in China. For that price, customers receive the battery pack with the standard range specification of 515 kilometers (320 miles), or they can choose the bigger pack, which increases the asserted range to 705 kilometers (438 miles). Considering that the starting price in China is similar to somewhat less than $40,000, both are rivals to the Model 3.
