Hyundai Motor Company reports global vehicle sales in September were around 355,040 units, 24% more than the year prior. The company sold 2,895,128 vehicles (down 1.2%) during the first nine months, according to InsideEVs.
The South Korean manufacturer is quickly taking plug-in car sales to new records. Last month, Hyundai and Genesis wholesale shipments totaled 22,733 (up 37% year-over-year).
It is worth noting that all-electric car sales successfully reached a new record of 18,842 monthly sales (up 55%). Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles got 3,891 sales (down 11%). And fuel cell vehicles reached 1,098 (up 17%). The total plug-ins amounted to 22,733 (up 37%).
The Hyundai brand, responsible for the company’s majority sales, noted a visible increase in plug-in sales.
A new record of wholesale shipments increased by 20,811 (27% year-over-year). Plug-in hybrid vehicles were down by 11% (3,891), whereas hydrogen fuel cell vehicles were up by 17% (1,098).
Hyundai’s plug-in electric car sales for September reached 153,067 (up 38%). In comparison, fuel cell vehicles reached 7,746 (up 6%).
Furthermore, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 remains the top model in Hyundai’s lineup for electric vehicles. The company produced more than 70,000 units, over 136,000 cumulatively.
Notably, the new Hyundai Ioniq 6 is ramping up and noted more than 2,600 units sold in September in South Korea.
The Hyundai Ioniq 5 reached wholesale shipments last month to 8,822 and 70,465 year-to-date. For other Hyundai models, Kona Electric reached 5,403 (39,768 YTD), Tucson PHEV with 3,595 sales (27,436 YTD), Santa Fe PHEV reached 296 (5,856 YTD), IONIQ Electric with 0 sales (4607 YTD), Ioniq 6 amounted 2,652 (2,677 YTD), and the IONIQ Plug-in with 0 sales (2,104 YTD).
Meanwhile, Hyundai NEXO noted 1,098 units with 7,746 year-to-date.
On the other hand, Genesis’ wholesale shipments of all-electric vehicles reached 1,922, with a year-to-date number of 13,900. The E-GMP-based Genesis GV60 BEV returned more than 1,000 units a month (1,139 noted last month), including a new record of 800 for export.
The brand added 426 G80 EV (3,158 YTD) and 357 GV70 EV (2,2765 YTD).
