Hyundai, the South Korean multinational auto manufacturer, revealed its record-breaking preorders of 37,446 for the all-new Ioniq 6 model on its first presales day in the country.
This significant increase in Hyundai’s record implicates the huge demand for the new EV model, according to InsideEVs. In retrospect, the company’s first presales day in February 2021 was only 23,760 for the Hyundai Ioniq 5, while Kia EV6 got over 21,000 preorders.
At the Busan Motor Show in July, the Hyundai Ioniq 6 made its debut. Two battery pack versions for the E-GMP-based sedan will be offered, including the long-range 53.0 kWh and the standard 77.4 kWh. It is anticipated to have a competitive range of up to 610 km (379 miles) WLTP owing to its excellent aerodynamics.
After accounting for local subsidies, the starting price for the basic long-range variant is 52 KRW (more than $39,000). Additionally, it has two drive unit options: rear-wheel drive with a single motor and all-wheel drive with two motors (up to 239 kW). The fastest variant is claimed to accelerate from zero to one hundred kilometers per hour (62 mph) in 5.1 seconds.
The Hyundai Ioniq 6’s strength will undoubtedly be its exceptional fast charging ability, enabling it to recharge from 10% to 80% state-of-charge (SOC) in just 18 minutes. Its vehicle-to-load (V2L) technology that powers external devices through the charging connector is also worth noting.
South Korea’s warm welcome to this new Ioniq 6 model may indicate that it would also be popular in other markets, including the US and Europe, once the order books open there.
As of now, it is confirmed that September will mark the beginning of official domestic market sales. In the first half of 2023, the Hyundai Ioniq 6 will debut in the US, considering that the production should start in January.
