Hyundai Motor India Ltd. reported a record-setting domestic sale of 552,511 units since its launch in India, as per Times Drive. Remarkably, that number represents a 9.4% year-on-year increase despite significant challenges in the past years.
“Our relentless pursuit to redefine customer experience and a strong product portfolio aligned with consumer trends has led to HMIL recording its highest-ever domestic sales of 5 52 511 units in CY 2022, a growth of 9.49% YoY. Despite strong headwinds in the last few years, we have continued to challenge existing boundaries and establish new Industry benchmarks.

Bestseller – 2022
The HMIL’s bestseller was the Hyundai Creta, with a record 140,895 annual sales volume in 2022 since its 2015 launch.
Notably, the press statement claimed that 50% of HMIL’s total sales are now made up of SUVs.

Exports – 2022
HMIL has also recorded a strong performance in exports, with 148,300 units in 2022. That number represents a YoY 13.7% increase from 1,30,380 units in 2021.
Moreover, the company reported a 14.4% increase in export sales. In December 2022, HMIL exported 19,021 units, up from 16,621 units in the same period in 2021.
Retail – 2022
South Korean Hyundai’s Indian subsidiary sold 57,852 retail units overall in 2022. It represents a YoY growth of 18.2% from 2021’s 48,933 units.
Overall Sales
Combining sales from the local and foreign markets, the HMIL sold 700,811 units in total. It represents an increase of 10.3% from the previous year.
HMIL saw an M-oM growth of 20.2% in the domestic market in December 2022, with the sale of 38,831 units from just 32,312 units in the same period in 2021.

Without question, Indian consumers appreciated Hyundai’s car offerings. That said, it would be interesting to see how well this company would perform in 2023.
