Faraday Future Intelligent Electric Inc., a California-based global shared intelligent electric mobility ecosystem company, announced choosing Innovusion’s Falcon LiDAR to power the FF 91’s autonomous driving system, as per Business Wire.
The system is meant to integrate into the FF 91 Futurist to provide additional real-time 3D vision, even in unpleasant weather conditions or the darkest of nights, offering a safer and more reliable driving experience.
Innovusion’s Falcon LiDAR
Innovusion’s Falcon LiDAR is designed to provide the FF 91 Futurist insight into the environment far in front of the car. Enabled by Falcon’s high angular resolution and long-distance capability, other vehicles in the FF91’s path could be detected up to 1,600 feet away. Even pedestrians and small road debris could be detected about 650 feet away.
Innovusion is a leader in high-resolution, ultra-long-distance, laser-based automotive sensors. Incorporating this advanced LiDAR technology into the FF 91 is very exciting and supports our efforts to deliver the uniquely positioned FF 91 to the market. The FF 91 Futurist will embrace the latest technologies to employ driver assistance features that help us achieve new levels of safety, driver comfort, and convenience.
Hong Rao, vice president of IAI at Faraday Future
Falcon’s advanced vision capabilities incorporate a sustained full field-of-view and high-resolution data collection, allowing superior visibility and improved safety in complex road conditions.
Leveraging 1550 Nm laser technology, Falcon could cope with difficult weather and environmental conditions. Snow, rain, in the sunniest or darkest day and night, the forecast offers consistent, real-time precision.
FF 91 Futurist
Furthermore, FF 91 Futurist’s propulsion architecture was designed to reach unmatched levels of efficiency and performance, complete with 381 miles (613 km) range.
The system generates 1,050 hp and accelerates the car from 0-60 mph in less than 3 seconds. Additionally, FF 91 Futurist’s EV range is based on a vehicle equipped with ample power and 22-inch wheels, loaded with luxurious interior space, technology, and features that make it distinct from all others.
FF has tested and developed this car to provide the user with a smart device on wheels with performance, technology, luxury, and an emission-free electric vehicle range.
It was designed in the company’s headquarters in Los Angeles and engineered in Silicon Valley, Los Angeles, and China. Currently, it is in the production-intent phase at the FF ieFactory California.
