IKEA announced that it is partnering with Electrify America to bring ultrafast public charging stations to more than 25 IKEA retail sites in USA.
Electrify America and IKEA US
IKEA currently has a sum of 141 Level 2 chargers across its shops in the US. It will add 200 single ultrafast chargers that offer charging speeds of 150kW to 350kW for consumers at IKEA shops in 18 countries. Those countries are Arizona, California, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Kansas, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Virginia, and Washington.
The first sites are expected to open late this year, and deployments will be finished by the end of next year.
Electrify Commercial will also bring over 225 additional ultra-fast EV chargers to similar IKEA US retail sites for delivery fleet charging. This is the first time Electrify America and Electrify Commercial are deploying public and fleet chargers simultaneously for a project.
This combined effort will allow IKEA US to quadruple its total number of EV chargers, which helps the aim of reaching zero-emission house distributions by 2025 and halving relative emissions from consumers and coworker trips by 2030.
IKEA US CEO and chief sustainability officer, Javier Quiñones stated:
“This collaboration with Electrify America will not only bring ultra-fast public chargers to our stores for the first time but it will also help us take a big leap as we work toward our targets to become circular and climate positive.”
Electrify America currently has over 800 stations and 3,500 single chargers open, and it plans to expand to 1,800 charging stations comprising 10,000 single chargers in the US and Canada by 2026.
