Although Electric Vehicles are more expensive to buy, they are cheaper to maintain—Advocates say.
There is a possibility that EV owners might outnumber traditional car owners, but before that, we have to clarify misconceptions about pricing and practicality that serve as cultural barriers to some people, according to electric vehicle owner Jose Alvarez.
Jose Alvarez, who is the VP of Prospera USA, said that “Do the research, do the math, it might be cheaper for you,” having done so himself. He said that owning an EV has little to no maintenance. The only maintenance he has done was tire rotation.
He also says that for those low-income residents in the city, “it might make sense because if they only do inner-city driving like I do, then they’re going to save money,” he said. Advocates say that EVs aren’t just for Urban people, Jacob Bolin, program manager of Plug-in NC told Axios that “In rural communities, where you have a longer commute distance … your operational costs go down as your usage goes up,”
He also adds “You’re saving more money compared to a gasoline vehicle.” But before this might happen, Alvarez and Bolin stated that there should be more charging infrastructure built, not only in Urban areas but across the country as well.
Elected Officials Gov. Roy Cooper of North Carolina as well as USA President Biden have shown their support for making EVs more accessible. Transitioning to new technology will surely take time, but if given the support and resources needed, we can adapt to that faster.
