As Canadians are seriously considering to buy Electric vehicles, manufacturers are having trouble keeping up.
With Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the price of petrol has continuously increased, which would exceed $2 per liter in Canada last month. With this, many Canadians are pushed into considering EVs.
Jeremie Bernardin, President of the Electric Vehicle Association of Atlantic Canada stated that “I think there’s a lot of people that were considering electric vehicles for a very long time, and they needed that extra little push,”
Given the interest of Canadians in Electric Vehicles, EV makes cannot keep up with the demand. One factor that affects the delay in making EVs is the global issue of the shortage of microchips that are used in the production of EVs.
With hardly any stock of Electric Vehicles on dealership lots, Canadians are put on waitlists. Bernardin said that the wait time could be as long as 3 years, depending on the manufacturer and the dealership.
According to a report last month, Tesla, which makes Canada’s best-selling Electric Car, has still no sign of refresh deliveries in Canada.
