BYD reported an astounding year-on-year plug-in car sales growth of 98% to 206,089 in March 2023. It also sold 991 commercial vehicles for a total of 207,080 NEVs.
Notably, that figure represents one of BYD’s highest sales results so far, along with the October-December 2022 figures.
Interestingly, both battery electric vehicle and plug-in hybrid sales increase at a remarkably comparable rate from year-on-year. However, PHEVs continue to be a little larger and faster-growing segment.
BYD plug-in electric car sales – March 2023
BYD reported BEV sales of 102,670, up 91% YoY. Meanwhile, its PHEV sales increased 104% YoY to 103,419 units.

BYD plug-in electric car sales – YTD
BYD’s passenger plug-in electric car sales have reached over 547,000 this year to date. That figure indicates a YoY growth of 92%.

Top models in March 2023
The best-selling BYD model last month was the BYD Qin family (BEV + PHEV), with 40,850 sales. The BYD Song family (BEV + PHEV) followed it with 40,510 sales, slightly fewer than the first placer.
The BYD Yuan claimed the third spot with its sales of 40,400 units. Notably, BYD Dolphin also reported strong sales results of 30,077 units.
