Chinese electric vehicle giant BYD reported record-breaking sales of 301,378 plug-in electric cars globally in November 2023, up 31% year-on-year. Notably, this sales figure incorporates the company’s sub-brands, including Denza (11,843), Fang Cheng Bao (626), and Yangwang (408).
However, it must also be noted that BYD’s November performance was relatively close to its October sales of 301,095 units, indicating a slowing growth rate.
Monthly sales (Nov 2023)
BYD’s battery-electric vehicle sales surged by 49% to a record of 170,150 units. However, plug-in hybrids failed to beat its peak sales in September. Nonetheless, it still recorded a 13% sales increase to 131,228.

BYD’s YoY growth rate continues to decline so far this year. It has even hit its lowest point since mid-2020 (COVID-19 lockdowns). It implies that China’s industry leader must strive to boost its sales to defend its leading position against strong rivals like Tesla.
Nonetheless, we can observe in the brand’s November performance that it is increasingly prioritizing the all-electric vehicle market, as BEVs account for the largest portion of its overall volume.
BYD aims to hit 3 million plug-in car sales this year. To achieve this target, the company must sell more than 300,000 NEVs in the last month of the year.
